Randy Miller will lead our January Workshop. He will teach three Scottish tunes for the workshop, arranged in the following medley:

Repeal the Poll Tax, reel

The Stool of Repentance, a jig

He will teach each tune incorporating tips with hands-on demonstration of the finer points, and will help arrange and orchestrate the medley. He'll be describing the sources of the tunes, their background, information on the composers, and his personal stories about traditional music from traveling in Scotland and The Hebrides.

Randy Miller with his accordion (he is also a fiddler)

Randy Miller tells of a friend who once described New England as “the nation’s attic.” The stone walls, town halls, flinty landscape, fiddle tunes, contra dances – all these things are tucked away in an old chest in the attic waiting to be discovered and treasured by everyone in the rest of the house.

Randy has played fiddle, piano, and accordion at contra dances and as host of Irish sessions for more than 50 years. He is the dance fiddler for The Inn at East Hill Farm in Troy, NH. His most recent album, The Joy of My Life, features his band's music recorded live at contra dances across the country.

He has composed over 40 tunes and in 2023 will release a book of his tunes along with a CD album.

Randy is the owner of Fiddlecase Books, a leading publisher of traditional melodies. Titles include the New England Fiddler’s Repertoire, Irish Traditional Fiddle Music, The Fiddler’s Friend –40 Fiddle Exercises, and Marshall’s Scottish Melodies.
